The revolution will begin with smiles

Image and words from Black/White:Read, August 2019 Photographs of rebels, daydreamers, eccentric places and the stories they've inspired. The revolution will begin with smiles. Whoever you are, wherever you are, when you least expect but seem to need it, we will look you in the eye and we will smile at you. The second wave will be encounters. We will greet, empathise, reassure and encourage you - without permission. The third wave will be sharing. We will speak and sing, write and draw all the beautiful ideas. We will post them where you’ll find them - on the street, on your feed, in your inbox or through your letterbox. We will share until you start to hope. The fourth wave will be acts of

Drinking the day like wine

Stone stairs, Castel Sant'Angelo, Rome She was reminded of wonders. Within that light, there might be an angel, an emperor or a diva. She could wish for a blessing from Archangel Michael, known to roost on the dome. She could imagine sage words from Marcus Aurelius, once entombed below. Lewes Bonfire Boys and Girls Image and words from the photography exhibition Black/White:Read, August 2019 Don’t you be frought of knuckers or any beast. True enough, Sussex is riddled. Water monsters in their bottomless knuckerholes, stinking gurt serpents in the woods, abuseful giants on the hill. And the farisees, the fairy folk, they’re everywhere and they’re the worst. If you’re having all sorts of bad luck, you may’ve offended them - expect your unexpected death. But there's no cause to lay awake at night. The Bonfire Boys and Girls will keep you safe. They’re experts. If a knucker gets out of its hole and out of hand, they feed it too much pudding. That sorts out a knucker. Kill or cu
