The hundred word story

The trick is knowing where to start. Not at the beginning, there’s no time for it. I need to grab the reader by the collar, yank them into the crucial place and time, when this fascinating person meets that irresistible problem, moment of wonder or wisdom. The reader is confided in, can’t turn away from the singular emotion, one central idea. And this moment is vivid. Each word carries plot, voice, mood and deeper meaning and is essential. Here comes the last line. A smack or a sweet kiss on the chops, and the temptation to imagine all the rest. # Hooray for National Flash Fiction Day - read, write and smile! With thanks for the great advice to: David Gaffney Becky Tuch and friends Richard T

About

Reading, writing and smiling

I live in Sussex by the sea, writing stories and novels which are speculative, historical and literary. I blog and tweet about inspiration, happy writing and delicious words. My goal is to share a little everyday magic.

You can find my work in the NonBinary Review, Write Like You're AliveTrue Tales from the Old Hill , Hysteria 6, Everyday Epics, Stories for Homes, and Every Day Fiction.

There are also some tiny fictions on this site which I hope you enjoy.
